OUR TEACHING APPROACH
LESSONS AND SCHEDULING
To provide consistency and an atmosphere condusive to learning, all lessons are taught at the Academy. During the enrollment process, each student will be assigned an instructor and lesson time. Once a lesson time is established, it is important that the student continues through the year with that time.
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Besides the music board exams, the Academy will offer two recitals and one music concert each year. There is reat value for students to perform pieces by memory and hear other students play and sing. Two recitals are required of each student.
ATTENDANCE
We consider your private lesson time to be a standing appointment. Students are expected to be on time for lessons. If a student must miss a lesson, prior notice is required. 24-hour notice is preferred. Missed lessons due to illness will be made up at the convenience of the teacher. Lessons cancelled by the teacher will be made up at the end of the month. Two-week advanced notice is required if a student wishes to terminal music lessons. The Academy reserves the right to discontinue a student with poor attendance.
BOOKS AND MATERIALS
Parents will be informed when the student needs new music. The name of the book and the cost will also be given. The parents can choose to pick up the music themselves or pay the teacher in advance to order the music for them.
INSTRUMENT POLICY
A student should be able to practice on an instrument that facilitates progress. Violins should be fitted to the individual and may need upgrading as the student grows. Piano students may begin on a keyboard for six months only. After that time, having an acoustic or digital piano is imperative, or the student's technique will suffer, and precious instructional time will be lost. The administration and teachers will be happy to recommend dealers for new or used instruments.
